Bonaire's entire leeward coast faces west. Every evening the sun drops straight into the Caribbean Sea beyond Klein Bonaire, and the calm water between the islands turns from turquoise to gold to deep rose. From shore it's lovely. From the deck of a sailing yacht, glass in hand, it's the moment most guests say made their holiday.
Our Sunset Aperitivo Cruise is a three-hour sail built around that hour. You board the Bavaria C46 at Plaza Resort Marina at 4:30 PM with a welcome Limone Spritz, sail past the Kralendijk coastline and toward Klein Bonaire while the light lengthens, and dock again at 7:30 PM — in plenty of time for dinner in town.
Most sunset cruises on Bonaire are catamarans running on engines with fifty people aboard. Compass is the opposite: one 14-metre German-built sailing yacht, a maximum of sixteen guests, and sails up whenever the trade winds allow — which, on this coast, is almost every afternoon. The engine goes off, the boat heels gently, and the only soundtrack is water on the hull.
Along the way we serve three Italian-style bites — including an individually portioned charcuterie board prepared in our marina kitchen that morning — and keep an open bar of Prosecco, Aperol, wine, beer and soft drinks flowing until we dock.
Prefer to have the yacht to yourselves at golden hour — a proposal, an anniversary, just the two of you and the crew? That's our private charter. Comparing all options first? See every boat trip on Bonaire side by side.
